If you are searching for new places to discover in your new Ford Edge, here are three of the most popular hiking trails you can reach in less than one hour by car from downtown Pataskala, OH.

1. Muskingum Recreational Trail

Running for four and a half miles along a ballast route, Muskingum Recreational Trail is one of the most popular paths among hikers, bikers, and outdoor lovers from Pataskala and other nearby cities in the area. This corridor consists of a partially paved and asphalted trail that connects the small village of Dresden with Rock Cut Road near the Powelson Wildlife Area.

The trailhead of this hiking path is located a little over 40 miles east of the Pataskala city center and can be reached in about 45 minutes by car via route OH-16. Much of this trail follows the banks of the Muskingum River and passes by natural rock formations. This place is also a well-known destination among wildlife watchers, as the surrounding areas are home to large populations of bald eagles, beavers, and wild turkeys.

2. TJ Evans Trail

As one of the first rail-trails in the state of Ohio, TJ Evans Trail paths goes through some of the most beautiful scenery in the area and offers excellent opportunities to spend time in nature. Connecting Johnstown and Newark, this trail passes by several villages including Granville, Johnstown, Alexandria, and Hanover.

Located about 10 miles northeast of the Pataskala city center, this path can be reached in about 20 minutes by car via route OH-16 and York Road. With a total length of about 14 miles, this trail is considered an easy route with mostly asphalted sections and minor elevation. Besides hiking, this route is also open for biking, running, and walking.

3. Overlook Trail at Highbanks Metro Park

Located about 30 miles northwest of downtown Pataskala, Highbanks Metro Park is one of the most beautiful nature reserves in the Columbus metropolitan area and a popular weekend destination among residents of the region. One of the main attractions of this park is the Overlook Trail, which has a total length of a little over two miles and leads to an observation deck with great views of the Olentangy River.
