2023 Ford Explorer
When you're in the market for a new midsize SUV, you'll have plenty of options to choose from. While many models have alluring features you may be interested in, nothing offers a driving experience quite like the Ford Explorer. This SUV has been making a name for itself for many years, and the latest iteration is better than ever. Take a closer look at the new 2023 Ford Explorer, and discover some of the best features it has to offer.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
With eight trim levels to choose from, you're spoiled for choice when it comes to exterior customization. The base-level trim already comes with quite a few impressive features standard, such as rear privacy glass, 18-inch wheels, and a power liftgate. Upgrade to the XLT, and you get heated side mirrors and roof rails. If that's not enough, you may be more interested in the ST-Line, which offers stylish dual chrome exhaust tips and 20-inch aluminum wheels.
If you're looking for more substantial upgrades, consider starting your search at the Timberline trim level. It's an off-road-oriented variant that comes with front tow hooks and all-terrain tires. Meanwhile, the Limited is more luxury-oriented, with auto-folding power side mirrors. The ST trim boasts blackout lights in the front and back, and the King Ranch adds a Western aesthetic to the exterior. Finally, the Platinum sports a painted rear skid plate and 21-inch wheels.
Engine (Power)
Under the hood of the Explorer, you'll find one of three engine options. The first is a 2.3-liter turbocharged inline-four that produces 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. If you're looking for something a bit different, the Explorer can be outfitted with a hybrid 3.3-liter V-6 that can manage 318 horsepower with 322 pound-feet of torque. The most powerful engine is a 3-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 that produces an incredible 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque.
Performance
The Explorer's performance is defined mostly by its level of control. You can enjoy a commanding presence on the road, especially if you opt for the all-wheel-drive system to get that extra traction for unfavorable driving conditions. Additionally, you get the advantage of a responsive 10-speed automatic transmission no matter which version of the Explorer you opt for. The towing capacity is also quite impressive, as this SUV is able to handle 5,600 pounds when properly equipped.
Interior
Inside the Explorer, you'll find an advanced and welcoming interior with plenty of room. There's room for seven people inside, but that drops to six if you get the second-row captain's chairs. It might be worth the smaller passenger limit, though, as the captain's chairs add greatly to the second-row comfort, along with 39 inches of legroom.
Safety Features
A number of safety features have been implemented in the new Explorer, including forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, as well as blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. Note that these features are standard all the way from the base trim. Additional available features include bi-LED headlamps and a self-parking assist system.
